Ithaka S+R and OCLC Research are launching a research project to examine how value academic libraries, not in terms of collections, but in terms of service. The project, named “University Futures; Library Futures”, will evaluate the higher education landscape to determine how academic libraries are differentiating themselves and creating value for their institutions.
As reported in a blog post from Roger C. Schonfeld, Ithaka S+R’s Director of the Libraries and Scholarly Communication Program,
In this project, our research question is: what happens when libraries differentiate themselves in terms of services, not collection size; are there multiple models of success?
Supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the project will take place over the next 14 months.
